In a healthy culture, the only finger-pointing people do is at themselves.
The leaders take ownership quickly and set the example.
Leaders reward those who bravely point out potential risks and do not ignore them because the only proper way to solve issues is full transparency.
They understand the power that processes play, and when something fails, they don’t treat them as “sacred”. They question if the process itself must be changed as a standard operating procedure.
They know mistakes happen, and share their own failings to teach. They coach their employees on how to fix their mistakes and create a learning culture that allows the lessons from mistakes to be teachable moments.
They apologize—swiftly and with humility—then course-correct.
The leaders get worried when they don’t regularly hear dissenting views.
They fire people for character issues, not performance, and coach the honest employee who may be struggling with performance to success.
They value protecting people as a sacred duty.
No matter how successful your business, if you’re not applying these leadership opportunities, you are missing out on more success. Even more concerning? You may be headed towards a catastrophe (like Titanic or Challenger) that could be avoided.
People always matter.

One day, somewhere in the future, a family member will talk about you. They will say:
“I had a great grandparent, aunt, uncle who was alive during the great pandemic of the 20's and _______”
Then they will finish that sentence with the actions you are taking during this time. Let’s decide today to fill it in with something inspirational.
I hate failing. Success feels so much better. Right? Yet, the crazy thing about failing is that failure has done far more for the development of my character and soul then success.
Something happens when we fail and find a way to get back up.
